Nuclear Medicine Shielding
Nuclear Medicine Shielding Overview
Designing shielding for the various radionuclides used in nuclear medicine imaging and therapeutics requires an understanding of the decay chain and types of radiation emitted throughout. PET emitters (F-18, C-11, Ga-68), SPECT radioisotopes (I-123, Tc-99m, Th-201), alpha therapy radionuclides (Ra-223, Ac-225, Th-227, Pb-212, As-111), and Beta emitters (I-131, Lu-177) have different shielding needs for shipping and personal safety.
NPO collaborates with the radiochemistry experts at sister company, Eichrom Technologies, who work at the forefront of nuclear medicine separation chemistry to design nuclear medicine shielding for these complex situations. Our radioactive materials laboratory gives us the ability to test and develop shielding using hot radioactive sources in a radiopharmacy-like environment.
Medical Applications
T-Flex Bottle and Vial Shields
NPO uses its custom part and mold making capabilities to produce form fitting shielding for bottles and vials. Bottles and vials filled with radioactive samples require safe storage and...
Smear Frisker Cave
This small compact solution replaces larger heavier lead brick caves to reduce background when surveying surface smears and other samples. The standard size (shown below) has 1” (25 mm)...
T-Flex Pipe and Valve Shields
T-Flex is the most versatile shielding material that NPO has to offer. Its ability to be poured as a liquid and cured as a flexible solid makes it ideal...
